ABOUT US

The Common Cold Poetry Collective started in March 2007 when Bede Payne, Claire Garrett and Adam Norris agreed to workshop their work at the UniBar.

Integrating poetry with music, games and performance, the collective is a fun, non-threatening forum for poets to demonstrate their work.

The collective aims are:
  • the continual development of young writers and poets in the Wollongong region
  • to reinvigorate the poetic oral tradition
  • to enhance the pub poetry experience.
  • to create publishing opportunities
  • to expose members work to the community
  • to create and strengthen bonds between artists and the community within the Illawarra and Sydney regions.
  • creation of an accessible workshop space for writers
  • to strengthen ties between young and old writers
  • to engage with the existing writing community
  • to encourage writing experimentation
  • to encourage professional practices
In June 2007 the incredibly generous South Coast Writers Centre (SCWC) Director, Ali Smith, offered the collective a space to workshop at the Wollongong Writers Centre.

Since then the SCWC and the has given the collective a wide range of support and ideas for our endeavours.

We workshop every Tuesday 7:30pm at the South Coast Writers Centre Wollongong.

These meetings are free and open to writers. We welcome all types of poetry, and writers of every level.

The workshops usually run from 7:30 to 9pm.

If you would like to come or ask us a question please don't hesitate to contact us at info@commoncold.org.au.
